Affton School District is proud to announce that for the sixth year in a row, we have been recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for providing broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through its PLTW programs. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of PreK-12 students and teachers in schools across the U.S.
We are one of just 17 districts across the U.S. to achieve this honor and the only district in Missouri to receive this distinction for the sixth time in a row.
In addition, all four of our K-12 schools - Mesnier Primary School, Gotsch Intermediate School, Rogers Middle School, and Affton High School - have also been recognized as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools. In the 2023-24 school year:
Affton High School is just one of 26 in Missouri named a Distinguished PLTW High School. They are one of only two high schools in the state and one of 24 high schools across the nation that have earned the distinction eight times.
Rogers Middle School is one of the 21 middle schools in Missouri named a Distinguished PLTW Gateway School. They are the only middle school in the state and one of 22 middle schools in the nation that have earned the distinction seven times.
Gotsch Intermediate and Mesnier Primary are two of 78 elementary schools in Missouri named Distinguished PLTW Launch Schools. They are the only two elementary schools in the state and two of 47 elementary schools in the nation that have earned the distinction seven times.
The PLTW Distinguished District and School recognition honors districts committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. Through PLTW, students develop in-demand knowledge and skills that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take. As PLTW students progress through grades PreK-12, they are empowered to engage in problem-solving and process thinking, develop technical knowledge and skills, build communication skills, and explore career opportunities.
“We are honored to recognize Affton School District for their commitment to providing students with exceptional educational experiences while ensuring equitable access to PLTW programs,” said Dr. David Dimmett, PLTW President and CEO. "We congratulate them on this achievement and celebrate their dedication to empowering students with the knowledge and skills to succeed, not only in STEM subjects, but also preparing them for future careers and life beyond the classroom."
Affton School District offers PLTW Launch (Grades PreK-5), PLTW Gateway (Grades 6-8), and PLTW Computer Science, Engineering, and Biomedical Science (Grades 9-12).
