Affton School District is proud to announce the hiring of Dr. George Calhoun as Principal for Affton High School for the 2024-25 school year. Approved by the Affton Board of Education on Tues., May 7, the appointment marks an exciting new chapter in the school's leadership.
“Dr. Calhoun brings a wealth of experience to his role, having served as a trusted assistant principal, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and a strong dedication to fostering an inclusive school culture,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent of Affton Schools. “With a proven record of excellence, he is poised to continue building on Affton High School’s legacy while ushering in new ideas and perspectives.”
Dr. Calhoun’s impressive career in school administration spans over a decade, including his role as assistant principal at Eureka High School in Eureka, Mo., since 2014. His diverse experience also includes four years as a middle school assistant principal, seven years teaching social studies at the high school level, and over 12 years serving as a basketball coach at both the high school and collegiate levels. Dr. Calhoun's educational journey is equally remarkable, with a bachelor of science in secondary education from Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Mo., as well as a master of arts in educational administration, a specialist degree in educational administration, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
“I am honored to serve Affton High School as its next principal. I am truly looking forward to getting to know the staff and students at AHS as we work together to build on and continue the proud traditions built over many years,” said Calhoun. “I want to gain a deeper understanding of the context and structure within the AHS community; it is important to me that all stakeholders are excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment.”
Calhoun grew up in the St. Louis area and currently resides in the city of St. Charles with his wife, Michelle, and two children, Jackson and Connor. He also has two grown adult children, Malik and Jordan, who both reside in the St. Louis area. In his free time, he loves to travel with his family to Florida and to NBA games. He also enjoys watching action movies and sports.
Dr. Calhoun will begin serving as principal at Affton High School on July 1. He takes over for Dr. Deann Myers, who will begin serving as Coordinator of Learning Services, and Dr. Jason Buck, who will continue serving in his role as Director of College & Career Readiness, on July 1.
