Affton sets 2026 tax rate

On Tues., Sept. 29, the Affton Board of Education unanimously approved the 2026 tax rate of $4.5489, maintaining a voluntary tax rollback of 35-cents first introduced in 2017. This 35-cent rollback reduces the tax burden for the community by approximately $2.38 million for 2026.

Assessed valuations for 2026 increased by 2.58%, or $18 million, from 2025. Because annual fluctuations in the tax rate are correlated to changes in assessed valuations, the tax rates for 2026 ($4.5489) decreased compared to the 2025 rates ($4.5491).

“We are proud to uphold our promise to the Affton community by lowering tax rates while keeping our schools strong,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “Providing nearly $2.4 million in tax relief through our voluntary 35-cent rollback demonstrates our continued dedication to fiscal responsibility, even as we make essential investments in our buildings, classrooms, and dedicated workforce.”

While the district is committed to maintaining quality learning opportunities for students and competitive staffing levels to assist with class sizes, we will also continue to pursue competitive pay and benefits in an effort to retain and attract exceptional and qualified employees.

Affton School District has continued to honor its commitment to the community by investing $3.8 million in capital improvements throughout the district in the current school year. The District is planning, designing, and executing the projects in the Facilities Master Plan, which includes the modernization of current buildings through updated libraries and learning spaces.
