Student Needs

#AfftonStrong

Affton School District strives to help our students achieve success by matching student needs with resources through partnerships between the schools and the community.

Did you know…

  • Affton School District serves over 2,700 students
  • Over 40% of all Affton students qualify for free or reduced meals
  • In 2016, Affton scored 96.8% in the latest annual performance report by the state, known as MSIP 5.

Working with local faith-based organizations, parent organizations and area businesses, we have introduced two programs to help reach those students who could benefit from some additional support.

Cougar Packs

Thank YouCougar Packs is Affton School District’s backpack food program, which helps ensure nutrition for some of our most food-insecure students while they are not at school. We provide a backpack filled with nonperishable food to children in need that they can take home and eat when school meal programs are unavailable.

Each Friday, students in the Cougar Packs program receive a backpack filled with breakfast items, proteins, fruits, vegetables and bread. The goal is to replace meals that children would receive at school, and typically includes:

  • 2 breakfast options
  • 2 lunch options
  • 2 snack options
  • 1 can of fruit
  • 1 can of vegetables
  • 1 loaf of bread

Additionally, the Cougar Packs program creates an opportunity for our Pre-CBVI students atCougar Packs - 02 Affton High School, who are responsible for filling the backpacks each week. CBVI (Community Based Vocational Instruction) is a Special School District (SSD) program implemented at AHS.

How can you help?

It costs roughly $5 per week to provide a backpack to each student. Our hope is to expand the Cougar Pack program to include both Mesnier Primary (grades K-2) and Gotsch Intermediate (grades 3-5) in the 2016-2017 school year, serving 24 children over 35 weeks. That brings the total cost for the program to $4,200.

$175 donation will sponsor one child for the 2016-2017 school year, but donations in any amount are welcome and appreciated

To make a monetary donation, checks may be made payable to Affton School District. Please note Cougar Packs in the Memo Line. Donations may be sent to:
