We want to extend a warm welcome and let you know that Chartwells School Dining Services has exciting plans for your school meal program. School meals are nutritious, a great value and more satisfying than ever for students. This year, Chartwells has exciting events and new menu items planned for your child’s school cafeteria. Our job is to make sure that we serve healthy, well-balanced meals that students will enjoy eating. We also strive to make the dining experience a special one, so we have planned activities that will appeal to all of our students. Below are some of the highlights to help begin the new school year.

Simply Good

Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to learn about healthier food options with fun and engaging activities that we have planned in the school cafeteria through our Simply Good program. Simply Good has a culinary emphasis that focuses on healthier meal options, especially ones with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.  We also feature locally grown produce on our menus weekly along with information about the farm that it came from. This year we will be partnering with the farmers to utilize the imperfect produce from their farms that would normally go to waste.

School Breakfast

Mornings can be really crazy! The alarm doesn’t go off, the kids don’t want to get up, or there is not enough time to eat breakfast before the bus comes.  If this sounds like your house we have good news for you.  Breakfast is available at school daily for $1.30, and is a part of the free and reduced meal program. Take advantage of this option to ensure your child eats a nutritious breakfast. Numerous studies show a strong link between nutrition and learning.  A nutritious breakfast helps students to be more alert so they can actively participate in class. Daily breakfast offerings include muffins, cereal, bagels w/cream cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit and low fat milk. Featured entrees include scrambled eggs, apple cinnamon oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, pancakes, waffles, and more!

Easy-to-Access School Menus

The way you access school menus is better than ever, and we are sure you will love it! Affton Schools, in partnership with Chartwells K12, is now using Nutrislice to publish the school menus to a new interactive website and a free smartphone app! Now you can access your menus anywhere, anytime!!! The menus will also now provide more information about menu items, including a photo and description. It will filter common food allergens like nuts, dairy and wheat. You can access nutrition information like carb counts and calories with just a few clicks, as well as print a PDF version of the menus directly from the website, if you prefer.

Our Environment

From supporting our school gardens to setting responsible purchasing practices, our concern for the environment is evident.  We serve certified, humane, cage-free eggs, poultry produced without human antibiotics, provide milk that is free of artificial growth hormones, and of course buy local products to support family farms. Chartwells encourages responsible and sustainable practices in our supply chain and is proud to lead the food service industry with ground-breaking methods in sustainability. One way of doing so is by our exclusive partnership with Hampton Creek built around the belief that good food, both for the body and society, should be widely accessible and delicious. Chartwells K12, in partnership with Hampton Creek, is proud to serve your student the specially formulated, K-12 compliant Just Cookies™Whole Grain cookie, and Just Mayo, Just Honey Mustard, and Just Ranch salad dressings.


Mesnier Primary and Gotsch Intermediate Schools

Meal Options:

Students are offered the option of three meal choices per day: one hot lunch options and two cold lunch options. The menu is designed to introduce children to a variety of foods that are not only good for them but also delicious. Included with the meal is an assortment of fresh fruit and vegetable options, along with a hot vegetable. We are proud to serve your children locally grown produce as often as possible. On Friday’s we feature school approved Papa John’s Pizza.

Rogers Middle School

Meal Station Offerings:

Bake: Features school approved Papa John’s pizza on Monday’s and Wednesday’s along with specialty items throughout the week like made from scratch calzone’s and whole grain breaded mozzarella cheese sticks.

Taste: Offers hamburgers, grilled & breaded chicken sandwiches, along with the ultimate favorite- the spicy chicken sandwich. A specialty item is offered daily such as the Alpine Swiss Burger and the Italian Combo!

Outtakes: A variety of “grab n go” lunch options available daily such as the build your own pizza kits, and muffin fun lunches.

Amigos: Offers a daily variety of all the favorite Mexican items such as soft and hard tacos, nachos, and taco salads. The toppings offered are endless!

Crisp: Offers a wrap and salad bar. Students can choose their choice of meat, fresh vegetables and toppings, or they can choose to have the daily featured item such as the Caesar Chicken Wrap or the Buffalo Chicken Salad.

Add Ons: All meals offer a hot vegetable and a fresh fruit & vegetable bar that is full of fresh seasonal produce, including locally grown when available.

Affton High School

Meal Station Offerings:

Crust & Stuff: Offers a daily variety of homemade pizza on a whole wheat crust with flax seed oil.

Casa Amigo: Offers a daily variety of all the favorite Mexican items such as soft and hard tacos, nachos, and taco salads. The toppings offered are endless, along with rice and refried beans.

Grab-A-Stack: Offers hamburgers, grilled & breaded chicken sandwiches along with the ultimate favorite, the spicy chicken sandwich. A specialty sandwich is also offered as a daily feature such as the Italian Meatball Sub Sandwich or the Monte Christo.

Play Bowls: Offers a variety of home-style meals from gourmet Mac & Cheese to Beef Gyros with homemade tzatziki sauce and oven baked fries. Also, features specialty items of the month such as a Vietnamese Soup Station or an All American BBQ line.

Ready Set Deli: Offers a sandwich, wrap and salad bar. Students can choose their choice of meat, fresh vegetables and toppings, or they can choose to have the daily featured item such as the Caesar Chicken Wrap or the Buffalo Chicken Salad.

Extra Extra Bar: All meals offer a hot vegetable and a fresh fruit & vegetable bar that is full of fresh seasonal produce, including locally grown when available.

Healthy Ala Carte Snacks: Prices vary, offered in all schools

Featured items in the High School and Middle School are smoothies from Smoothie King and Yo-Dots, a healthier item offered by Dipping Dots. Also offered are grab and go lunch items like fruit and yogurt parfaits, a variety of bento boxes: Hummus with Pita, Fresh Fruit and Cheeses, Vegetables and Dip, and specialty cold sandwiches. All schools offer a la carte snack items such as whole grain, low fat baked chips, snack crackers and dessert items, as well as 100% fruit juice drinks. Unless you do not permit your child to have a la carte items they are available for purchase with money that is placed in their meal account.

Prepayment System

Chartwells uses Affton’s SIS accounting system to record student payments and purchases throughout the school year. A few reminders to begin the year:

  • Set Up-Establish your student’s meal account before school starts. Make sure you know the access information to get into your student’s meal account
  • Deposit Funds-Checks should be made payable to the Affton Schools Foodservice with the student’s name and amount enclosed in a pre-payment envelope, which are located in the school offices. You may also pay with cash or online.
  • Online Payment-Pre-payments can be made through Permission Click by going to the Affton School District website, clicking on school meals, and then online payment.
  • Pre-payments-After the start of school, pre-payments will be accepted in the morning or at the register.
  • Keeping Up with Your Child’s Account– Pre-payment deposits are recommended weekly or monthly to avoid negative student account balances. Letters will be sent home weekly if your child has a negative balance either through email or mail. You may also log into the Affton SIS system and check your student’s account balance. There are charge limits in place so please ensure your child has money in their account in order to purchase lunch and a la carte items.
  • Cash Sales- We accept cash purchases at the point of service at the middle school and the high School.

Online Meal Payment Through SISK12

The SISK12 Parent Portal’s computerized debit system allows you to pay in advance for meals and ala carte foods such as milk, juice and smart snacks. Payments may be made using Permission Click, with your debit or credit card. There is a nominal service fee per transaction. Although we recommend that all students use their prepaid account to ensure speed of service, customers will still be able to deposit cash on a daily basis as they have in the past. Please note that when depositing money through permission click there is a 24 hour processing wait on all transactions.

Student Account Balances

Balances from the previous school year have been carried forward to the new school year, and from school to school. For balance information, you may call the Food Service office at 314-633-5984 or check the Online Parent Portal. Parents are notified of low or negative balances every week through email or mail. If you student has a negative balance please call to resolve this before the beginning of the school year. There are strict charge policies in place this year, so please ensure that your student has money in their account to purchase meals and a la carte options.

Both Chartwells and Affton Schools are dedicated to providing quality, nutritious meals to students.  We hope you will encourage your child to continue to enjoy their favorite meals and try our new dining offerings.
