Looking at New Start Times

Affton School District is looking into the possibility of changing starting and dismissal times at each of its schools beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. This is based on feedback gathered from community engagements, focus groups, and surveys - including two Thoughtexchange opportunities earlier this school year.

What Does the Research Say?

A substantial body of research shows that later start times in schools are shown to have the greatest benefit for middle and high school students. Adolescents who start one hour later tend to have fewer absences and some improved academic performance. Learn more:
