Affton Schools Receive National Recognition for Commitment to Empowering Students

Affton School District is proud to announce that for the second year in a row, we have been recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through its PLTW programs. We are one of just 24 districts across the U.S. to receive this honor and one of three districts in Missouri. In addition, all four of our schools have also been recognized as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools.

This recognition includes:

  • Affton High School, one of just 14  high schools in Missouri and 143 high schools across the U.S. to receive this honor, for PLTW Biomedical Science, Computer Science, and Engineering;
  • Rogers Middle School, one of just 13 middle schools in Missouri and 176 middle schools across the U.S., for PLTW Gateway™; and
  • Gotsch Intermediate School and Mesnier Primary School, two of just 22 elementary schools in Missouri and 97 elementary schools across the U.S., for PLTW Launch™.

“It’s exciting to continue earning national recognition for providing a program in each of our schools that leads our students to become even more engaged and inspired,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “Project Lead The Way provides us opportunities to achieve our district mission, which calls us to help our students grow as highly capable, curious, and confident learners.”

The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. Through PLTW programs, students develop STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) knowledge as well as in-demand, transportable skills that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives.

“It is a great honor to recognize Affton Schools for their commitment to providing students with an excellent educational experience,” said Dr. Vince Bertram, President and CEO of PLTW. “They should be very proud of their work to ensure students have the knowledge and skills to be career-ready and successful on any career path they choose.”

Affton High School, Rogers Middle School, Gotsch Intermediate School, and Mesnier Primary School are part of a community of K-12 schools, colleges, and universities, and corporate and philanthropic partners across the country united around a passion for providing students with inspiring, engaging, and empowering learning opportunities.
