Lead Strong: 2017-2018 New Teachers & Counselors

This year, Affton School District welcomes 10 new teachers and 2 new counselors to our staff. Learn a little more about them here:

Name: Stephanie Briscoe
Position: Modern Language Teacher – French, Spanish & World Culture
School: Rogers Middle School

 

Stephanie Briscoe is a 2012 graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, earning a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and French. In 2015, Stephanie received a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Missouri Baptist University. She hopes to inspire all students to be good global citizens.

Name: Casey Brooks
Position: Sixth Grade Teacher – Math
School: Rogers Middle School

Casey graduated from Maryville University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She also attended the Affton School District from grades K-12 and graduated from AHS in 2005. Casey started teaching sixth-grade math at Rogers in 2017. She integrates problem solving and real world situations into her math lessons and hopes to teach in a way that allows all of her students to develop a growth mindset and enjoy math.

 

Name: Jennifer Conway
Position: English Language Arts Teacher
School: Affton High School

 

Jennifer is a graduate of Truman State University (BA in English) and Maryville University (MA in Education). She is excited to begin her first year of teaching English at Affton High School and looks forward to encouraging her students to reach their full potential and to become lifelong learners. Jennifer is also proud to be the new JV Girls’ Basketball coach. After playing throughout college, she is ecstatic to continue her basketball career by preparing young female athletes to become strong leaders on and off the court.

Name: Becky Dedert
Position: Kindergarten Teacher
School: Mesnier Primary School

Becky is excited to be part of the Kindergarten team at Mesnier! She graduated from McKendree University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and has taken master’s level classes at Webster University. She lives in the Affton community with her husband and two children. They are a very active family so you will find Becky at multiple sporting events cheering on the sideline. As an educator, she values the student’s input and uses brainstorming methods to give them opportunities to be involved in what they are learning in the classroom. Becky enjoys teaching kindergarten because it is a critical age for learning academics, social, and emotional skills that will promote lifelong growth.

Name: Lexi Jo Heitkamp
Position: School Counselor
School: Mesnier Primary School

Lexi Jo is a graduate of North Dakota State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and The University of South Dakota, where she earned a master’s degree in Professional School Counseling. She started her career as a K-5 counselor at Terry Redlin Elementary School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Go Eagles!). She is eager to be an Affton Cougar and assist Mesnier students in succeeding personally, socially and academically.

Name: Paige Pfankuch
Position: First Grade Teacher
School: Mesnier Primary School

Paige is a graduate of Fontbonne University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with an additional certification in Special Education. This is her first year teaching in the Affton School District. Paige believes in developing academic, social, and emotional skills within every child. We are all life long learners!

Name: Taylor Pierce
Position: Third Grade Teacher
School: Gotsch Intermediate School

Taylor is a graduate of The University of Alabama (B.S. in Elementary Education) and the University of Missouri (M.Ed. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum). She will be teaching 3rd grade for the second year. She is passionate about helping students cultivate interpersonal relationships through collaboration.

Name: Emily Rohman
Position: School Counselor
School: Gotsch Intermediate School

Emily is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and Missouri Baptist University with a master’s degree in School Counseling and Licensed Professional Counseling. She first came to Affton in 2013 for her internship during her master’s program and has been wanting to return ever since she graduated. She is passionate about helping students develop emotionally and socially along with their academic growth.

Name: Frankie Sheldon
Position: Eighth-Grade Teacher – Math
School: Rogers Middle School

Frankie is a proud graduate of Texas A&M (Whoop!), where she earned her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Math and Science, 4 – 8. She is excited to be joining the RMS family as an eighth-grade math teacher. She hopes to instill a love for learning and math in all of her students by incorporating innovation, student voice, and collaboration in her classroom!

Name: Allen Stringer
Position: Business Teacher
School: Affton High School

Allen is a graduate of the University of Missouri, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing, and Lindenwood University with a master’s degree in Teaching. This is his first year at Affton and he is excited to join this wonderful community. He is passionate about helping students prepare for life after high school and find their talents and passions in life.

Name: Elizabeth Trudell
Position: Third Grade Teacher
School: Gotsch Intermediate School

Elizabeth is a graduate of Truman State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in History and master’s in Elementary Education. She taught in the Warren County School District as a fourth-grade teacher for 12 years before coming to Gotsch in 2017. She is excited to encourage third graders to love reading and develop a passion for learning as they become kind, curious, and compassionate citizens.

Name: Kim Westrich
Position: Art Teacher
School: Gotsch Intermediate School

Kim is a graduate of the University of Missouri where she studied Fine Arts and received a BFA in Graphic Design. Later, she attended Fontbonne University for her teacher certification and a Master of Arts in Special Education degree. Kim has taught art to every grade level K-12. She is excited for the students at Gotsch Intermediate to learn what artists do, grow to understand that they are the artist and that the art room is their studio. Kim feels that it is important that students are offered choices in how to use their own ideas in their art.
