Affton Students Recognized

Lots of good news for students throughout Affton School District!

Natalie Jobe, Irma Karahasanovic, Benny Koenig, and Conner Welte, fourth-graders at Gotsch Intermediate, earned second place out of 23 teams in the Missouri Stock Market Game. From their SAIL teacher, Laura Pezzani: “Students are given $100,000 to invest in stocks and bonds throughout the semester. They have to research and make smart purchases. The game is played in real time, meaning that the stocks they buy are the same prices as the actual stocks on the NYSE and NASDAQ. They earn interest on the cash in their portfolios and earn money or lose money based upon the current stock prices. They also have to pay broker’s fees during the game.” Congratulations to these Gotsch students!

Josh Krakos, a senior at AHS, will be honored as the Joseph P. Sunnen Youth of the Year recipient by the Gateway Region YMCA. Josh has a long history of involvement in the YMCA as a camp counselor and participant in a YMCA service trip to South Dakota this past summer. He views the YMCA as an irreplaceable part of his life. With this accomplishment, Josh will receive a full tuition and board scholarship to Lindenwood University for 4 years. Congratulations, Josh!

Anika Tran, a junior at AHS, has been selected as a KMOX/Southeast Missouri State University Student of Achievement. This award recognizes thirty (30) students throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, the arts, community service and leadership.
