4th Graders Raise Awareness for Childhood Cancer

Last week, fourth-grade students in Mrs. Burst’s and Mrs. Cotton’s classes at Gotsch Intermediate School organized Gold Ribbon Week in order to raise awareness about childhood cancer. They asked staff and students to bring in $0.50 or a pack of gum each day, and celebrated with different spirit days throughout the week, including wearing yellow or gold, crazy hair day, pajama day and more.

The students collected donations, tracked them daily and raised $880 and 350 packs of gum, which will be donated to Saint Louis Children’s Hospital for children who are undergoing chemotherapy.

“I am so proud of how hard our kiddos worked,” said Emily Burst, fourth-grade teacher. “Today we met with Mrs. Cotton’s class to reflect on our success and the best thing I heard many kids say was how this motivated them to do more and spread more kindness!”
