This school year, we will be sharing a Lead Strong Staff Spotlight. Each month, you’ll meet an Affton Schools staff member and see how they help make us Affton Strong. Our Lead Strong Staff Spotlight for November is:
Laurie Scheurer, kindergarten teacher at Mesnier Primary
How long have you been with Affton Schools? I have been with Affton for nine years. My first year I was a teacher assistant, and this is my eighth year teaching kindergarten.
Tell us about your job. What do you do, and what do you like best? I am a kindergarten teacher at Mesnier Primary. The best part of my job is being able to enjoy the enthusiasm the children bring into the classroom each day and seeing their eagerness to learn. I love to see each student’s sense of pride they feel when they master a new skill!
Tell us a little about your family. Who supports you? I have the best family! My parents are the glue that holds us together. They have been behind me every step of the way, pushing me to do my best and are always cheering for me! I am the youngest of three children. My sister and brother have always been excellent role models and truly are my best friends! My amazing husband, Kevin, is a firefighter and we have been married for 10 years. We have the sweetest, most artistic and loving daughter, Emily, who is five and is a kindergartner!
What’s your favorite memory from your time in Affton? My favorite memory from Affton is the day I was offered my kindergarten teaching position. I loved being a teacher assistant and was so excited to continue to work in a wonderful school district!
What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about Affton Schools? One thing I wish everyone know about Affton was how great our district is. I am honored to work with a team of teachers that are caring, hardworking, knowledgeable, innovative, nurturing and dedicated to making Affton Stronger!
