This school year we will once again be recognizing one Affton student each month for the things that make them Affton Strong, both in and out of school. Our Affton Strong Student of the Month for November is:
Tonyelle Temple – Affton High School
Tonyelle Temple is a senior at Affton High School and is proud to be Affton Strong! “Tonyelle is an amazing student at Affton High School. She is goal-oriented and determined, and she is a very talented athlete in Track and Field,” said Mary Giunta, College & Career Counselor at Affton High School. “Tonyelle makes me laugh and brightens my day when she visits me in the college center. She is very caring and will do what she can to help others. I am very proud of her and I know she will be extremely successful in her life!!”
Parents: Ernestine & William Temple
Sibling(s): Gabrielle (Junior at AHS) & Danielle (8th Grade at Rogers Middle School)
What do you like best about Affton High School? Our teachers. I love all our teachers! They make me feel really important and they tell me I’m going to be something.
What extracurricular activities have you participated in? A@ps (Affton Advanced Professional Studies), Track, Cross Country, Student Council, DECA, president of Diversity Club, Homecoming Court, and the #startswithus Team
Do you have plans for college? I’m going to Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. I really like that it’s smaller, so I can have relationships with my teachers rather than just being a face in a crowd.
What do you hope to major in? I want to go into nursing, but I don’t know what type of nurse I want to be; either geriatrics or pediatrics. I feel like I can help those groups of people because I can encourage them.
What is your favorite class or subject? My favorite class is AP Literature with Mr. Jennings. I love him! He’s a really good teacher and he’s so in love with his topic, it’s not a job to him. He helps me understand. My goal last year was to understand a novel without having to use SparkNotes — and I did it! I have the same goal this year.
What staff member has made the biggest impact on your life, and how? Mrs. Giunta, the College and Career Counselor, because she’s always there when I need someone to talk to, cry to, or express to. I can tell she only wants the best for me.
Who is your role model? My mom, because I want to be more like her. She stands up for herself and I want to model her confidence.
What has been your proudest moment? My sophomore year at the Junior Olympics, I ran the third leg in a relay and we came in 2nd place. It was the happiest day of my life! My coach was so happy.
What do you want people to know about Affton Schools? I love all my teachers. It’s nice to go to a place where people actually want me there. Staff members know our names, and they know us. At other, bigger schools, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd with so many kids. At Affton, they know us, and we know them, and it makes a difference.
