Two Affton schools have each received a $1,000 grant for their libraries. The donation to Mesnier Primary and Gotsch Intermediate was made possible by Main Street Books in St. Charles, Mo., in affiliation with author Dav Pilkey, author of the popular “Captain Underpants” series.
“Mr. Pilkey and his wife are exceptionally generous people, and it is important to them that all students have access to books at their school,” said Emily Hall, owner of Main Street Books. “All of the thanks in this scenario should be directed to Dav and Sayuri Pilkey. They have given us the means to provide area schools with a great gift, and to them we are incredibly grateful.”
The main goal of the grants is to give students the ability to read books they love and eventually find new things to enjoy as well.
“I am so thrilled about this donation,” said Jeniffer Ackerman, librarian at Mesnier Primary. “Our students love reading and receiving this donation will help support and develop their love of reading. Dav Pilkey is someone I admire as he gives many of our students a purpose in reading with his amazing stories. I also love that the donation not only supports our students but also a local book store, Main Street Books.”
Both Mesnier Primary and Gotsch Intermediate are in the process of selecting new books for their libraries.
