Lead Strong Staff Spotlight|August 2015

This school year, we will be sharing a Lead Strong Staff Spotlight. Each month, you’ll meet an Affton Schools staff member and see how they help make us Affton Strong. Our Lead Strong Staff Spotlight for August is:

Jeanne Allen, Secretary at Mesnier Primary School

How long have you been with Affton Schools?   Twenty years ago I saw an ad in the newspaper for Clerical Assistant for Gotsch Intermediate.  Since I like kids and helped in the school when my kids were little I thought this would be a great job.  Luckily the principal, Pam Sylvara, agreed with me and I was hired.  I have just completed twenty years with Affton and am now beginning my next twenty.

Tell us about your job. What do you do, and what do you like best?  My job has consisted mainly of enrolling kids, withdrawing kids, finding out the reasons why kids are absent, maintaining kids’ files, keeping the teachers informed, answering parents’ questions, and proofreading for four principals through the years!

The best part of my job is the kids, of course.  They can make you happy no matter how lousy you feel with some cute remark or just their little faces.  It’s also fun to see them grow up and return to visit or enroll their own kids.

The teachers and staff make my job enjoyable too.  I have seen so many times when they do more than what is expected for their students and for each other.  It is truly a more caring atmosphere than the business world that I had worked in previously.  Thanks for letting me stay!

Tell us a little about your family. Who supports you?  My son and daughter have always been the reason I keep going and three neat grandsons make life even better.

Thanks, Jeanne, for making a difference at Mesnier Primary School and for our students. Together, we are Affton Strong.
