This school year we will once again be recognizing one Affton student each month for the things that make them Affton Strong, both in and out of school. Our Affton Strong Student of the Month for August is:
Jessica Villmer – Gotsch Intermediate School
Jessica is a fifth-grader at Gotsch Intermediate School and is proud to be Affton Strong! “She is an outstanding student who is very dedicated to her school work and doing her best. She is a leader and great role model for students in the classroom,” says her fourth-grade teacher, Anne Pitcher. “Jessica is thoughtful of others and patient when working in groups. Each day she is eager to learn and happy to be at school. She is awesome!”
Parents: Bryan and Cady Villmer
Sibling: Pablo (a third-grader at Gotsch Intermediate School)
What do you like best about Gotsch Intermediate School? I like how nice the teachers are, and the students are always really nice to each other, too.
What is your favorite subject? Science, because I like learning about animals and plants, as well as environmental hazards.
What is something you’ve learned lately? This morning, my dad taught me how to turn fractions into decimals. I wanted to learn because it was on our pretest yesterday, and I didn’t know the answer so I really wanted to learn how to do it.
Who is your favorite teacher you’ve ever had? My kindergarten teacher, Ms. Watson. She did a lot of hands-on learning, and I liked that. She was fun!
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a teacher because I think that I can help kids learn a lot – and have fun while they’re learning. That’s important.
What do you like to do for extracurricular activities or outside of school? I’m on the SLGC gymnastics team, and compete in vault, bars, floor, beam. I really like floor routines because we get to do a lot of tumbling, which is fun.
If you could meet anyone famous, who would you want to meet? I’d want to meet Taylor Swift because she inspires me. She’s older and I look up to her because she’s a good singer and sends out a positive message.
What has been your proudest moment? Last spring at state competition in gymnastics, I won first place in the bronze level for all around.
What do you want people to know about Affton Schools? I’d want them to know about all the cool rewards for having good behavior, like Fun Friday and the Perfect Attendance Wheel. They’re something that really makes me want to come to school and to behave well.
