This school year we will once again be recognizing one Affton student each month for the things that make them Affton Strong, both in and out of school. Our Affton Strong Student of the Month for May is:
Caileigh Compton – Affton High School
Caileigh is a senior at Affton High School and is proud to be Affton Strong! “Caileigh is a very talented young lady. She has been very active in the Orchestra since the fourth grade. Since being in the High School Orchestra, Caileigh has performed a solo at the MSHSAA music district festival each year and has lettered all four years in Orchestra, which has earned her the CODA award in our music department,” says Sandra Hausman, orchestra teacher. “She is Affton Orchestra Strong!”
Adds Dee Loris, social studies teacher and cheerleading sponsor: “Caileigh has always set high goals for herself and has the drive to see them come to fruition. She takes the initiative to succeed in all the things she is passionate about, which makes her Affton Strong!”
Parents: Clint & Kim Couse
Sibling: Faith Couse (a sixth-grader at Rogers Middle School)
What do you like best about Affton High School? I really like the welcoming that everyone gives, and how they make you feel a part of a family. Also, all the new technology is really cool.
What extracurricular activities have you participated in? Cheerleading for four years, and I was varsity captain for a year; soccer for two years; orchestra for eight years, and I’ve been first chair viola for two years; Varsity Sports Club; and HOSA for two years.
Do you have plans for college? I’m going to University of Central Missouri (UCM) in Warrensburg.
What do you hope to major in? Nursing, and I want to specialize in Endocrinology. I have Type I diabetes, and I want to help others who are like me.
What is your favorite subject? Math, because I use algebra every day in order to figure out my doses and keep my diabetes in control.
What staff member has has made the biggest impact on your life, and how? Mrs. Beezley (nurse at Rogers Middle School), because when I was diagnosed with diabetes, she helped me tremendously, especially during low points. She was almost like my second mom and helped me every time I needed it. She definitely influenced my career choice!
Who is your role model? My mom, because she was a single mom for really long time. She worked, went to college and was still my mom. And she deals with me. She’s a very strong person, who has dealt with a lot and handles it all.
What has been your proudest moment? Getting accepted to UCM, because that’s where I’ve always wanted to go. I really like their family-friendly atmosphere, and it’s smaller size. They have everything bigger schools have, but it’s affordable. I’m excited to go!
What do you want people to know about Affton Schools? Everyone here welcomes each other with open arms. Affton is the right size, not too big and not too small, and that helped lead me to choose UCM.
