Amy Rose, fifth-grade teacher at Gotsch Intermediate School, has been named the Affton School District’s 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year.
At an awards ceremony on April 15, Rose was awarded the honor. Each Affton school also named a Teacher of the Year for their building. They include: Amy Dahlia, ELL teacher at Mesnier Primary; Rose for Gotsch Intermediate; Cathy Gieselman, sixth-grade math and social studies teacher at Rogers Middle; and Chris Boley, math teacher at Affton High School.
“Part of our mission at Affton School District is to prepare all of our students to become confident and capable citizens. It is my privilege to work with a highly talented staff so dedicated to making that mission a reality for each and every child with whom they come into contact,” said Dr. Steve Brotherton, superintendent. “I am grateful for each of our Teachers of the Year, and am certain that Amy will represent Affton well.”
Rose has been teaching at Affton for 11 years and holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction plus 30 additional credit hours in Instructional Technology. She is also eMINTS certified. On the application for Teacher of the Year, one of Rose’s colleagues states, “Amy is an outstanding teacher exemplified by excellent lesson plans, use of technology, effective communication skills, and her genuine care for all students.”
Rose believes in strong parent communication, and explains, “Parents are the first teachers of their child, and have the most insight into their child. They are the ones with them all of the time, what a knowledgeable, wonderful resource!” She will have the opportunity to compete for the title of Missouri State Teacher of the Year.
Dahlia, the Mesnier Primary School Teacher of the Year, has worked in the Affton School District for 15 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education in Special Education and Communication Arts and is ESOL certified.
