Blue Valley Schools is pleased to announce the Affton School District and the Parkway School District, both located in St. Louis County, have signed agreements to implement the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) model.
CAPS began in Blue Valley more than six years ago and the model is now being utilized by 15 school districts in seven states. The innovative, nationally recognized program was created in partnership with business partners, business mentors, universities and other local stakeholders. Program variations of CAPS reflect the differentiated market needs of the sponsoring districts with all programs offering students a rigorous professional curriculum combining real world and academia in an immersive environment.
“The Affton School District has been researching and developing the Affton Advanced Professional Studies (A@ps) program for the past three years and is excited to launch this opportunity for students next year while at the same time joining the CAPS network,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, assistant superintendent. “A key component of the A@ps program will be to engage our business partners and tap into the growing number of entrepreneurs and innovators in the St. Louis area.”
“We see great value in becoming part of the CAPS network,” said Jennifer Stanfill, Parkway Coordinator of Career and Technical Education. “We are pleased to work collaboratively with CAPS stakeholders and excited about the opportunities associated with this strategic partnership. “
“Interest in the CAPS models continues to increase,” said Blue Valley CAPS Executive Director Corey Mohn. “We are thrilled with the addition of Parkway and Affton and are excited to leverage each other’s expertise and assets to improve the professional learning environment for all CAPS students.”
Both Parkway Spark! and Affton A@ps will launch with four experiences for juniors and seniors during the 2015-2016 school year. Spark! will offer Incubator, Health Sciences, Teaching & Learning and Technology Solutions. Affton A@ps will offer Global Business & Entrepreneurship, Medicine and Healthcare, Engineering & Advanced Manufacturing, and Technology Solutions.
