This school year we will once again be recognizing one Affton student each month for the things that make them Affton Strong, both in and out of school. Our Affton Strong Student of the Month for August is:
Alaina McAlister – Rogers Middle School
Alaina is a seventh grader at Rogers Middle School and is proud to be Affton Strong! “Alaina has proven her strong leadership ability by attending the National Fuel Up to Play 60 Summit this summer in Fort Worth, Texas, advocating for health and wellness,” said Kathy Beezley, nurse at Rogers Middle School. “She has worked diligently and tirelessly in order to increase student awareness of healthy eating and exercise. She is an asset to our FUTP committee and team.”
Parents: Amy & Art McAlister
Sibling(s): Katie (senior at Affton High School) & Sam (8th grade at Rogers Middle School)
What do you like best about Rogers Middle School? Fuel Up to Play 60 because it’s a very strong program that’s well organized and put together
What is your favorite subject? Math because I’m good at it and it’s fun
What is something you’ve learned lately? Mr. Hill (Social Studies, Rogers Middle) is awesome and Mr. Crites (Math, Rogers Middle), because they’re nice teachers and they pretend to be rivals. They make school fun.
Who is your favorite teacher you’ve ever had? Mrs. Daniels (Math, Rogers Middle) because she challenged us and made learning fun.
What do you want to be when you grow up? An artist or art teacher. I like drawing and I’m told I’m good at it.
What do you like to do for extracurricular activities or outside of school? I’m on KWBY Sailfish Swim Team and I made it to the highest level this year. My favorite is the butterfly stroke because it’s complicated and hard to get the form right.
If you could meet anyone famous, who would you want to meet? Authors John Green (The Fault in Our Stars), Veronica Roth (Divergent trilogy),or J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter series) because they seem really nice and have great attitudes. I watch videos with them in it, and John Green blogs with his brother and is kind of crazy.
What has been your proudest moment? I’m the Missouri State Ambassador for FUTP60 and got to go to their national summit in Texas this summer. It was super fun and I learned a lot.
What do you want people to know about Affton Schools? We’re all like family. We know almost everyone here, and you always feel welcomed.
