Affton Strong Student of the Month | February

This school year we will be recognizing one Affton student each month for the things that make them Affton Strong, both in and out of school. Our Affton Strong Student of the Month for February is:

Maureen Dolan – Gotsch Intermediate

Maureen is a fifth grade student at Gotsch Intermediate and is proud to be Affton Strong! Says her teacher, Jill Cotton, “Maureen is a kiddo that shows kindness and compassion each minute of every day.  In the classroom, Maureen will go out of her way to help a classmate with an assignment or make a friend smile by doing a kind deed! Maureen is an awesome role model for her peers.  She is always thinking of others and making kind choices along the way!”

0214-Maureen Dolan-1Last month, Maureen received a Do The Right Thing Award for her selfless actions. Leading up to the holiday season, she asked her family to think of others. Rather than buying gifts for each other, the Dolans adopted an entire family from the Affton Holiday Wish List.

“The best part was dropping off all the gifts for the kids,” said Maureen. “The only way it could have been better was if I knew how happy that family was.”

Parents: Patrick & Denise Dolan

Sibling(s): Bridget (age 27) & Erin (age 22)

What do you like best about Gotsch Intermediate?  I like Gotsch because it’s fun. We got to do a lot of projects in class with iPads.

What is your favorite subject? Reading, because I get to imagine new worlds.

What is something you’ve learned lately? We learned how to test the pH balance of something, like rubbing alcohol and vinegar.

Who is your favorite teacher that you’ve ever had? I really can’t pick just one. All of my teachers have been so nice and really good.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  Either a lawyer or a professional swimmer. I’m interested in law enforcement and crime, and I also love to swim.

What do you like to do outside of school? I like to swim. I’m on the Indian Hills Swim Team, and I really like the butterfly and breast stroke. I also like to run. The longest I’ve run was 5 miles at the Affton 5 Run last year, and I hope to beat my time this year.

If you could meet someone famous, who would you want to meet? Taylor Swift, because she’s always been my favorite singer/songwriter.

What has been your proudest moment?  When I got a Do the Right Thing Award. I got to help somebody else out, instead of just myself.

What do you want people to know about Affton Schools? There are a lot of good teachers and the kids are really nice.
