Since September, five Affton High School students; (pictured below, back row, l to r, )Parth Patel, Jacob Witt, Manny Paurevic, Gage Freeman and Trenton Thorpey; along with four Rodgers Middle School students; (front row, lwto r) Connor Wunderle, Jane Ireland, Skylar Spurgin and Max Slavik, have been meeting one afternoon a week to gain more in depth knowledge on computer security. In addition to the weekly meetings, theses students have spent seven hours on four separate Saturdays competing in the CyberPatriot competition. CyberPatriot is the nation’s premier youth cyber education program, featuring the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition is open to all high schools and middle schools in the nation, as well as JROTC units, Civil Air Patrol composite or cadet squadrons, and Naval Sea Cadet Corps units. The CyberPatriot Computer Security Competition was created and sponsored by the United States Air Force Association and Northrop Grumman. Recently, these students competed in the State competition and the high school’s team placed 1st in their division! Tomorrow begins the regional and final competition of the year. Both the middle school and high school teams will be representing the Affton School District.
