During seminar on Thursday, January 21, 25 students participated in the Affton High School 2016 Poetry Out Loud competition. In the week leading up to the competition, all students recited a poem in English class, then representatives from the English classes were chosen to compete at the school-wide assembly. The winners are Pamela Petterchak in first place, Michael McDonnell in 2nd and Wayne Ngo in 3rd. Pamela will advance to the district competition on February 2 at the Ferguson Arts Center and it includes the St. Louis County district.
Poetry Out Loud encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
